Rare Found Spiral Shell Fossil from our Local Beach - I have capped with leather and inscribed symbols and the word "Time" on it.
(The Oregon Coast has an amazing amount of fossils due to the uplift of the Coast Range during the Miocene Epoch - a geological period from approximately 5 to 23. million years ago. During the Miocene epoch, the land that now forms the Oregon Coast Range began to rise from the sea - and by the middle Miocene, around 15 million years ago, most of the Coast Range region had emerged from the Pacific Ocean. This uplift was a consequence of the collision of the Juan de Fuca and North American tectonic plates. I have amassed quite a collection of fossils and it is hauntingly beautiful to hold a fossil that is so ancient!)
